“Soon afterward He went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God.” Luke 8:1
What does it look like to “proclaim” and “bring” the gospel of the Kingdom of God to those who need it today? One thing is certain our gospel is so great it must not only be proclaimed, preached, and spoken but must also be ‘brought’; I think that means, it must effect change and transformation of lives. It is God’s sovereign rule and authority breaking into our world and our lives.
One might say the ‘bringing’ comes through the ‘proclaiming’ and I think that is true. After all, “faith comes by hearing and hearing through the Word of Christ” (Rom 10:17). We need to proclaim the Gospel. We also need to bring the Gospel in practical ways. Jesus modeled the ‘bringing’ in how often his teaching and preaching was accompanied by healing, praying, and casting out of evil spirits. It is modeled for us in the early church through their focus on the poor and their practical care for one another.
We shouldn’t do one to the exclusion of the other. The proclamation of the Gospel and the bringing of the Gospel belong together and God’s kingdom is made present in our lives both.
Lord, send me out to proclaim and bring the Gospel of the kingdom of God to those who need it today.
