    Jason,

Hmmm … I’m struggling with this analogy of culture being “people’s houses” … I think because it presumes that we can somehow stand outside of culture and throw rocks at it — as if Christians are ever outside of culture or “out of the world” (to use more biblical language). I just don’t see how that’s reality, or even desirable.

So if we’re throwing rocks at culture, it’s always from the inside. The more problematic thing, I think, is the cultural influences which we ourselves are completely unaware and therefore completely uncritical of (e.g., racism, sexism, materialism, etc.), although they ultimately shape and form us, our core beliefs, and how we see the world.

Throwing rocks at culture just destroys our shared home and damages relationships with our housemates.

While at first it seems like a good analogy, I think it breaks down pretty quickly. Or, at least, I see it differently ;-)
