I just backed up my computer. I feel good though I need to be more diligent with backing up - once every two months is better than not at all but I would still lose a lot of irreplacable data.
What is your backup plan? What program do you use?

I’m also very neglectful of backing things up. The company I worked for just bought Mozy, which - I’m told - you can back up your hard drive to remotely. So if your office floods/burns/is attacked by squirrels, your data is securely stored somewhere else. Sweet!

It’s important to note that they will not archive files for you… so if you delete something off your main machine it will be removed from your online backup as well… Also, Mozy will only license one machine for your basic monthly rate–which is great if you’re a one trick pony, but if you are working off a desktop at home or work, and then want to use the same files on your laptop you’ll have to subscribe twice. (and I’m not positive that the subscriptions are interchangeable).
Lastly, if I’m not mistaken, the software to uncode and recover your information is propriatary. Which can always lead to more problems down the line.
Amazon has a new service called Amazon S3. .15 cents a month per gig used, and information is stored in multiple locations across the web further increasing it’s realiabity. We haven’t moved that way yet (as we currently have about 500 gigs worth of data for this year alone and haven’t decided to move it online) but are considering backup up our final edits via S3. Currently we use 2 500gig WD Mybooks. One to work off of, and the other as a mirror backup in case of HD failure. Everything is also backed up to DVD for archival storage (though I’ve heard DVD’s aren’t the best long-term either…) goodness, what’s the best solution, I don’t really know… good luck.
