I love Tuesday for a number of reasons but one of the highlights each week is meeting with my good friend Jeremy at Caribou Coffee at 7am. We share our joys, our struggles, the Gospel, and try to stir one another toward greater love for our wives, our children, our church, and most of all Jesus. And we enjoy some good coffee!
This morning Jeremy shared some of his thoughts on being filled with the Holy Spirit and one illustration has stuck with me all day. We often think of being filled with the Holy Spirit as pouring water into a cup. I still think that’s a great illustration as I so often feel like am empty cup that needs filling. And I want to be filled not half-full but to overflowing; staying under the faucet of God’s abundant grace! But today I have been thinking about “being filled” with the Holy Spirit as one would fill a balloon with air. Picture a balloon being filled slowly and continually with more and more air, expanding and taking form in proportion to the air. All illustrations eventually break down but I love these images and the thought that God would be gracious to fill us with His Spirit, empowering and moving us to live lives pleasing to Him, power to fight sin, power to see Christ and enjoy His presence. May He fill us all the more today, hearts expanding, love overflowing!
