Anselm’s Argument

We discussed Anselm’s argument in Church History class today in regards to the infinite honor of God and therefore our dishonoring of God being infinitely dishonoring and worthy of infinite punishment. Anselm goes on to argue that the only solution is an infinite ransom be paid by man, therefore necessitating the substitutionary sacrifice of the infinite God-man.

This argument has been powerful and helpful to me especially when it comes to the question of God’s justice and right in damning sinners to an eternity in hell. More poignantly, it’s a reminder of my own personal infinite offense against God and the fact that I deserve His infinite and furious wrath.

His mercy is amazing!
