A Man of Understanding

“Wisdom rests in the heart of a man of understanding, but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools.” (14:33)
We just finished the first part of Proverbs as a church. It is a great book to be in together. This verse struck me, particularly as it speaks to my desire to 1.) [...]

Thoughts from a Sick Man

I woke up sick today…still. Not fun. Read Philippians 2 and meditated on how Christ “made himself nothing,” and how we are called to “consider others more significant than ourselves,” “seek the interests of others,” and “have the attitude of Christ the servant.”
That goes along with the Changing Hearts, Changing Lives series we’re [...]

Trying a New Look

I’m playing around a bit with blogger and seeing what I can do. Let me know you think.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving

Shawnda and I had a great time with the Hartness family yesterday. Wednesday night we participated in the Thanksgiving service at Grace Church in Harrisburg. The brother who preached was a little old man who must have been close to 80 years old. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was blessed!

Keziah is One Today

Happy Birthday to my precious daughter!
We got a package from Nani (grandma) today from TX with Shawnda’s old My Little Pony’s - she loves them! I need to dig up some my old J.I. Joe’s and Transformers for Samuel.

A Sweet Visit

Monday night we had the blessing of having dinner at Cracker Barrel with my youngest brother Darian (we had to pick some place southern and close to the airport so he could have something you can only get in the south — he did well and ordered ‘dumplins…and grits!) He was at the Youth Specialties [...]

My Wife is Blogging

Wanting More

I had a great phone call today with a pastor friend in St. Louis. Everytime I talk to him I leave wanting to know Jesus more and wanting to be more like Jesus. And I want to be a pastor like him; being used as a means of grace to cause young guys like me [...]

Soundtrack to My Week and Good Readings

My soundtrack has been Shawn McDonald’s album Simply Nothing. One song I can’t stop playing, Beautiful:
As I look into the stars
Pondering how far away they are
How You hold them in Your hands
And still You know this man
You know my inner most being, oh
Even better than I know, than I know myself
What a beautiful God
What a [...]

The Paper is Done!

I finished my paper on Paul’s Theology of Boasting at 4am this morning. It was good to wrestle with this some more, especially how Paul can say we should not “boast in man” but “in the Lord” and yet call the Thessalonians his “crown of boasting” at the second coming of Christ. A new category [...]
